PUTTING A MAN ON THE MOON "One Small Step For Man..."
GOAL
SET
May
25,
1961,
in
a
Special
Joint
Session
of
Congress,
President
John
F.
Kennedy
stated:
“I
believe
that
this
nation
should
commit
itself
to
achieving
the
goal,
before
this
decade
is
out,
of
landing
a
man
on
the
moon
and
returning
him
safely
to
the
Earth.”
GOAL
ACHIEVED
July
20,
1969,
the
first
human
stepped
foot
on
the
moon
thus
reaching
the
goal
set
forth
by
President
Kennedy
nearly
a
decade
earlier.
It
was
a
historic
achievement
by
the
United
States.
The
lunar
landing
constituted
a
persuasive
demonstration
of
national
will
and
technological
capability
for
the
United
States.
It
has
been
said
that
an
iPhone
has
greater
technological
capacity
than
was
available
in
the
decade
of
the
1960’s.
The
lunar
landing
was
accomplished
before
the
computer
era,
using
limited
technology.
Since
that
time,
remarkable
advancements
have
come
into
being
in
the
area
of
science,
technology
and
medicine.
So
what
about
new
home
construction?
What
have
our
energy-technology
goals
been
for
new-home
construction
in
the
last
fifty
years?
With
the
extraordinary
technological
advancements
of
the
last
five
decades,
can ’t
we
build
a
good,
affordable,
sustainable
energy-self
sufficient
house?
